Discussion: Grass-Family Poaceae; Monocot Coarse grass forms clumps. Leaves-shiny, stiff and dark green. They bulge at the bottom before they wrap around the stem; bulge with hairs along the edge. Flower contracts before and after flowering. Flower stems may be on one side or in different directions. Grows to 4 feet. Natural History: Species is distributed on waste ground, meadows, fields, along railroad tracks, and open woods.
